For many finance teams, month-end close is still slow and manual. Staff rekey invoices, work through spreadsheet reconciliations, calculate FX adjustments by hand and chase approvals, and much of the close window goes on checking whether the numbers can be trusted at all. As CFOs face growing pressure to give the business timely, reliable information, AI-powered finance automation has become a strategic priority rather than a nice-to-have. When routine transactional work is automated and anomalies are flagged before period end instead of after, organizations can shorten the close, improve data integrity, and free experienced professionals to focus on analysis and decisions.
In this segment of the Intelligent Finance Operations Tech Showcase, James Bowers-Lee, Solutions Consultant and Manager at iplicit, gave a live, product-led demonstration of how iplicit’s mid-market cloud finance platform supports the whole finance function. That runs from expenses, purchasing, accounts payable and receivable through to the general ledger, management accounts, consolidation and tax submission. He described iplicit as a deterministic platform that embeds AI responsibly. It is designed to be “human-led but AI-empowered,” surfacing insights and recommendations for review rather than acting without oversight.
Throughout the demonstration, Bowers-Lee showed how small automations add up across the month: intercompany transactions, FX gains and losses, prepayment releases, invoice capture and bank matching. Together they speed up the close and give users faster access to data they can trust. The session ended with a Q&A on whether a “day zero” or “day one” close is realistic, and on how CFOs can bring iplicit data into external AI tools for board reporting.
Highlights:
- iplicit covers the full finance function in one cloud platform. It supports unlimited legal entities, automates intercompany transactions and consolidates in real time.
- The platform pulls in live FX rates and posts gains and losses automatically, and it creates and releases prepayment journals from general ledger coding. This removes recurring manual tasks while keeping each entry reviewable.
- Invoices are captured straight from email, period controls such as soft close keep month-end in order, and open banking feeds suggest matches to cut manual reconciliation work.
- The embedded AI Pulse engine flags duplicate invoices, unusually high amounts and new suppliers, and offers recommendations so finance teams can catch errors before period end.
- Users can question their finance data in plain language, for example “show me the last six months’ revenue across region.” They can then turn the results into custom charts and pin them to real-time dashboards.
- A customer testimonial from Walking with the Wounded reported saving at least 15 days each month. Bowers-Lee said a faster close depends on an organization’s starting point and processes. He also noted that iplicit currently connects to external tools through open API endpoints, with MCP connectivity under consideration for the future.
