Module 2: Identify profit and cash initiatives

Dan Wells October 10, 2023

Profit and cash flow are two of the most important aspects of any business. The CFO is responsible for ensuring that the company generates sufficient cash to meet its obligations, fund its ongoing operations, and invest sufficient funding towards delivering the strategic business plan. You must also ensure that the company hits your ongoing profit targets within your financial model.

There are multiple ways that CFOs can generate additional cash, such as by improving margins, optimizing your working capital cycle and reducing overheads. Alternatively, you can raise debt or equity funds to boost short-term cash for investment in strategic priority areas or to lengthen your cash runway.

Likewise, the CFO is surrounded by ongoing opportunities to boost profitability levels. Most of these require you to work closely with other people and build bridges between different teams. For example, by reviewing your pricing strategy, driving efficiencies across your business and performing value chain analysis throughout your entire supply chain.

During this module, we discuss the different ways that CFOs can identify profit and cash initiatives. We provide many examples of how you can work with your finance team and collaborate with other departments to improve these metrics. We perform deep dives into popular methodologies and review the biggest challenges that you need to overcome to successfully implement them.
